We Have an Active Faith

Stewardship is the grateful response of a Christian disciple who recognizes and receives God's gifts and shares these gifts in love of God and neighbor. Stewardship is a way of life at the Church of the Magdalen. Stewardship isn’t something we simply perform or a form we check off once a year; it’s how we live each and every day. We believe that our faith in God is made active by carrying out works of love and mercy for others. We strive to “be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves” (James 1:22).  Stewardship elevates the virtue of justice to live in relationship with God and others as members of the same family.

God Made us for Good Works

Our discipleship is made visible through our good works and sacrifices of our time, talent, and treasure that God has given each one of us. Our deep stewardship values are grounded in the truth that God the Father created us to carry out the service we provide to others: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

Stewardship is Living Out the Greatest Commandment

Living stewardship means that we strive to carry out the Greatest Commandment. Jesus taught: “‘...you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength…‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:28-30). Offering God our time, talent, and treasure is a way we can make God’s love manifest in the world.

Stewardship is a Loving Gift of Self

God reveals his perfect and infinite love for us most visibly in His Son, Jesus Christ. A steward makes God’s love visible by imitating Jesus. The more deeply one grows in love for God, the more one grows in heart to see stewardship as a way of life, a way of love, imitating God’s love for us. Stewards see everything good as gifts received from God and they respond in gratitude with the gift of self (Catholic Diocese of Wichita, Kansas).
