On Wednesday, Feb. 18th, the season of Lent officially begins! It is time for Catholics to practice fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. Have you and your family talked about what you will do for those 3 practices of Lent at home?
What We Are Learning:
- Math: Students will begin Topic 9 this week in Math. In this topic, students will learn how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators. Students will also learn how to convert between improper fractions and mixed numbers.
- Religion: Students will be preparing to begin the season of Lent on Tuesday. We will be discussing the 3 principles/practices/pillars of Lent: Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. On Wednesday, we’ll begin Ch. 12 in our Religion textbook. This chapter is called, “Doing God’s Will.” In this chapter, students will be learning how through prayer we learn to understand and trust God’s plan for each of us. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the definition of stewardship and can recite it to Mr. B for 5 pts. Extra credit!
- Social Studies: Students will be taking a break from learning about the US Regions in our magazines for a couple of weeks. Students in 4th grade have 3 State Assessments to take this year: ELA, Math, and Social Studies. ELA and Math are test based, but Social Studies in 4th grade is project-based. Each student will randomly select a US State to research about individually. Towards the end of the project, each student will get a partner to compare and contrast their state to each other and they will present their findings together.
A Few Reminders...

- Students are now allowed to bring water bottles that are stainless steel and they don't have to be necessarily clear. They are expected to ONLY have WATER inside of their bottle. Failure to abide by this rule will result in your child using only clear bottles for the remainder of the school year.
- Every day your child should bring back to school their agenda and their school computer fully charged.
- Please double check if your child has a pair of headphones at school! We utilize headphones many times throughout the week for Hallow or listening to a read aloud. Thank you so much!
