4th Grade
Let's lift up our 2nd Graders in prayer this weekend as they receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the very first time!
What We Are Learning:
- Math:Students will be wrapping up Topic 12 this week over fractional and decimal relationships, comparing decimals, and adding/subtracting money amounts in word problems. They will receive their Topic 12 Study Guide on Monday and their test will be on Tuesday.
- Religion: Students started Ch. 16 in their Religion textbook. They will be learning about Respecting Others. This will be their last chapter in Religion this year before we move into another program that all grade levels called “Family Life.” On Thursday, students will take their “Act of Faith” prayer quiz. We have been praying this prayer in class since October and it is one of the 4 prayers that a 4th Grader needs to know by the end of 4th Grade.
- Social Studies: Students will continue learning about the Southwest Region of the United States! They will be learning about all four states of the Region and what they are known for in the modern day.

Happy Divine Mercy Sunday! Our Lord appeared to St. Faustina several times, telling her how much he wants to give his mercy and love to those who come to him. Jesus, I trust in You!

- Math:Students will be taking their State Assessment this Monday and Tuesday morning! Students will be assessed over their Math knowledge from this year and years past. We will continue to learn about decimal and fractional relationships this week in Topic 12 in our Math workbook.
- Religion: Students will be wrapping up Ch. 14 in their Religion book this week over the Sacraments of Healing. On Monday, the students will have a review day over learned concepts in Ch. 14 and on Wednesday students will have their open-book quiz.
- Social Studies: Students will continue learning about the Southwest Region of the United States! They will learn how Texas became a state and also how Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico all became part of the United States too.

- Math:Students finished up (for now) multiplying a whole number by a fraction in Topic 10. We will come back to that study day and quiz day after State Assessments are over. Students will begin Topic 12 this coming week over Fractional and Decimal relationships.
- Religion: Students will continue learning about the Sacraments of Healing (Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation) in Ch. 14.
- Social Studies: Students officially started the Southwest Region of the United States this past week. Students will receive their SW states/capitals study flashcards on Tuesday and we will start on Friday learning about the Geography of the region and the Early History of the region.

What We Are Learning:
- Math:Students will wrap up Topic 9 on Monday with their Mixed Numbers Quiz. Students will be assessed over their ability to convert improper fractions to a mixed number, how to add mixed numbers, and how to subtract mixed numbers. There is no study guide for Math quizzes and we had a study day on Friday to review all skills. On Tuesday, we will begin Topic 10 learning how to Multiply a Whole Number to a Fraction.
- Religion: Students just completed Ch. 13 in their Religion text reviewing the Seven Sacraments. On Monday, we will begin Ch. 14 reviewing specifically about the Sacraments of Healing (Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick). On Tuesday, we will go to the church to examine our consciences before All School Confessions on Wednesday after the 8am Mass.
- Social Studies: There are still a couple of groups left to present for our State Assessment Project! Once we complete those presentations, we are officially done with the project. We will get back into learning more about our states and regions of our country, starting back with the Southwest Region (Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona)

Just a reminder that all of Lent 4th graders are hosting a canned food drive for the Lord's Diner. This is a great way to practice one of the 3 Pillars of Lent: giving alms! The Lord's Diner are in great need of canned corn, green beans, and fruit. The students are also encouraged to spend some of their own allowance or spare cash to buy some cans as well. :)
What We Are Learning:
- Math:Since Topic 9 is fairly long, students will be taking a half-way point quiz over the first five lessons of Topic 9. This quiz will be on Tuesday. We will have a review day on Monday, but there will be no study guide for this quiz! After the quiz, students will begin to learn how to convert from an improper fraction to a mixed number and vice versa.
- Religion: Students will be wrapping up Unit 3 (The Holy Spirit) in their textbook this week. They will have the opportunity to work with their groupmates earlier in the week to complete the Unit 3 Review. After completion, students will be able to participate in a Lenten watercolor activity!
- Social Studies: Students will be taking a break from learning about the US Regions in our magazines for a couple of weeks. Students in 4th grade have 3 State Assessments to take this year: ELA, Math, and Social Studies. ELA and Math are test based, but Social Studies in 4th grade is project-based. Each student will randomly select a US State to research about individually. Towards the end of the project, each student will get a partner to compare and contrast their state to each other and they will present their findings together.

Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the definition of stewardship and can recite it to Mr. B for 5 pts. Extra credit! On Wednesday, Feb. 18th, the season of Lent officially begins! It is time for Catholics to practice fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. Have you and your family talked about what you will do for those 3 practices of Lent at home?

On Monday, Feb. 2nd, MCS had their annual 1st-4th Grade Spelling Bee! Representing our class was Miss Annie and Mr. Hogan. Great job to both and we are so proud of you!
What We Are Learning:
- Math:Students will be wrapping up Topic 8 over Equivalent Fractions and Comparing Fractions this week! Students will have a review day/receive their study guides on Monday, but our test will not be until Wednesday. This gives the students 2 days to complete the study guide and to prepare well for the test!
- Religion: 4th Grade Blessed Palms Drive/Sacramentals/Burning Palms into ashes for Ash Wednesday! :)
- Social Studies: Students will be wrapping up the Midwest Region of the US this week. On Monday, students will have a review day to continue studying their states/capitals. - Religion: Students will begin Chapter 11 in their Religion textbook this week. Students will be learning about the New Commandment that Jesus gave us. “Love one another, as I have loved you.” This is also called the “Law of Love.” They will be taking their Ch. 11 Show What You Know Quiz on Wednesday, Feb. 4th.
- Social Studies: Students will get back into their Midwest Region this week. We will be learning about the Industrialization Period in the US and how the Midwest played a big role in that with factories and the assembly line. They will also be learning about what the Midwest looks like today. We will be coming up on our Midwest States/Capitals Test on Wed. Feb. 10th!

Beginning this Sunday, Catholic schools around the nation are celebrating the annual "Catholic Schools Week!" There will be lots of fun throughout the week to honor and celebrate being in a Catholic school and chances to raise money for the St. Katherine Drexel Fund within our diocese.
What We Are Learning:
- Math:Students will continue learning about finding equivalent fractions this week. Last week, they learned how they can use models/pictures to find equivalent fractions. This week they will learn how to use a number line, multiplication, and division to find equivalent fractions.
- Religion: HAPPY CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK!

- Social Studies: Due to the many activities of Catholic Schools Week, we will be taking a break from our MW magazine this week. Instead, we will be getting ready to celebrate the birthday of our state! Happy birthday to Kansas on Thurs. Jan. 29th! Students will have the opportunity to earn some extra credit through designing their own Kansas license plate! All of these plates will have the letters HBD2KS or HBD 2 KS or HBD KS as their plate letters. These license plates from the students always turn out so good!
