The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay organization inspired by Gospel values. We come together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to neighbors in need. We are a lively, fun, faith-filled group that meets twice monthly for prayer, reflection, fellowship and to administer a range of ministries. Our meetings involve formation in Vincentian spirituality.
Our principal ministry is to conduct in person “home visits” with those who reach out to us in need of help. The home visits are carried out by two-person teams. Through the home visit we seek to see the face of Christ in those we visit and be the face of Christ to them in their time of need. We minister to the needy within the Magdalen parish boundary, and we also cover cases in All Saints, Holy Savior and Resurrection Parishes. We serve those of all faiths and none.
Our other ministries are:
- Coordinating Church of the Magdalen’s participation in the Wichita Diocese Meals on Wheels program.
- Undertaking regular visits to local nursing homes to engage in prayer and fellowship with residents.
- Providing meals once a month to the Crossroads youth anti-homeless initiative.
- Delivering food donations to the Dear Neighbor Food Pantry.
We meet at the Church of the Magdalen on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7pm. Meetings usually last one hour. VIRTUS training is required for SVdP members for the safety of the children and adults at risk whom we encounter during our visits.
